Cabinet approves new action plan to combat gender-based harassment

The Cabinet of Ministers has green-lighted the second multi-sectoral

national action plan (2024-2028) for the elimination of sexual and gender-based harassments in Sri Lanka.

Joining the Cabinet press conference held today (10), Cabinet Spokesman Bandula Gunawardane said that since policy involvement is necessary to ensure the rights of women, men, children and all diverse groups to live in a fair and social environment without any violence, the first national action plan to address the harassments based on sexual and gender sociality was implemented with an integrated approach during the period 2012-2020. 

He also mentioned the necessity of a new national action plan has been identified in a follow up and assessment process made to find out the impact of the previous action plan. 

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the relevant proposal presented by President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as the Minister of Women, Children Affairs and Social Empowerment for the multi-sectoral national action plan II (2024 -2028) for elimination of sexual and gender based harassments in Sri Lanka, prepared in consultation with relevant parties.
