The Uva Provincial High Court has sentenced to death
a person who was found guilty of attacking his wife to death with an iron rod in the year 2010.
Badulla Police had filed this case against the suspect over the charges of attacking his 35-year-old wife to death with an iron rod in the Kendagolla area of Badulla on 19 June 2010.
It has been revealed during the court hearings that the convict has had a family dispute with the victim over a long period of time, and that he committed the crime during an argument occurred after he confirmed that the wife was having an extra marital affair.
However, it has also been revealed that the suspect had assaulted his wife with an iron rod, causing injuries to one of her legs. Evidence presented in court had detailed that the neighbors rushed the injured woman to the Kandagolla Hospital in a three-wheeler and that due to the severity of her condition, she was later transferred to Badulla General Hospital, where she had succumbed to her injuries.
During the trial, the Judicial Medical Officer’s testimony had highlighted two significant wounds on the victim’s leg, one of which had caused muscle death. Meanwhile, the cause of death was determined to be internal bleeding resulting from the injuries.
The High Court judge, who declared that the charges leveled against the convict have been proven beyond reasonable doubt, sentenced him to death.
