Nadeen Basik, the son of alleged large-scale drug trafficker Shiran Basik,
has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake today (28).
The officers of the Police Special Task Force (STF) have arrested the suspect who had returned from Dubai, Ada Derana reporter said.
Nadeen Basik is the main suspect in a hit-and-run case during a raid in Wellawatta where an STF officer was injured on 16 February 2024.
However, he has fled overseas when an overseas travel ban imposed on him over drug trafficking charges, had temporarily been lifted.
He has returned to the island this morning onboard an Emirates flights from Dubai, the police said.
The suspect has been handed over to Wellawatte Police for onward legal action, according to police.
Shiran Basik, the father of Nadeen Basik, is a large-scale drug trafficker who is considered the ‘godfather’ of Sri Lanka’s drug network, and he is currently hiding in Dubai.
