Sri Lanka Navy has apprehended 08 Indian fishermen
along with an Indian fishing trawler for illegally poaching in Sri Lankan waters off Mannar.
The interception has been carried out during a regular patrol conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the northern waters on Monday (26).
The seized trawler together with the 08 Indian fishermen have been brought to the Thalaimannar Harbour and they will be handed over to the Thalaimannar Fisheries Inspector for onward legal proceedings, according to Sri Lanka Navy.
With this recent apprehension, the Sri Lanka Navy says it has seized a total of 46 Indian trawlers and arrested 341 Indian fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters in 2024, and subsequently handed them over to authorities for legal proceedings.
